What was once an abandoned railroad line is now one of the most iconic destinations in Missouri.
More than 100 years ago, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT), often called the Katy, carried passengers and cargo along the banks of the Missouri River. In the 1980s, the railroad track was severely damaged by flooding and was subsequently abandoned by the railway. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources acquired the right of way to develop Katy Trail State Park, to follow much of Lewis & Clark's orginal expedition. Since then, restaurants, inns, wineries have sprung up to help bicyclists and walkers get the most out of their time on the trail.
The Katy Trail winds through Missouri for nearly 240 miles - our Bike Lane advanture will experience just a small part of it. In addition to following the longest river in North America, we’ll bike past towering bluffs, leafy canopies and many charming small
towns.
Adventure Meter:
Adventurous; moderate level of fitness is required; must have current bicycle riding experience (street bike - not mountain biking); biking average 25 - 30 miles per day, average. 3 - 4 hours in the seat; all level / flat. Active itinerary

Best Time to Go:
June or September

Weather:
Humid and hot in July and August. Best time shoulder months (June and September), for warm days/cool nights.
Should be 80's day time; could be 50’s or 60’s in the evening.

Fly to arrive: RT Into St Louis Missouri on Sept 17.
